How it Started

The story of Pulse & Prelude begins in Halifax, where I’ve worked as a paramedic for over eight years. In this role, I’ve seen firsthand the strength and resilience of people in their hardest moments and most vulnerable states. While helping others is a core part of who I am, the intensity of my line of work has required me to find creative and fulfilling ways of decompressing and expressing myself. I began to play the cello, and my hobby became a passion quickly. Playing the cello allows me to connect with emotionally charged music, while also expressing my creativity.

When it comes to creativity, I try to not limit myself, and dip my toes into whatever piques my interest. When I came across the idea of making my own body care, my imagination ran not only in the creative direction, but in the practical direction too. I see a number of people in my job who struggle with the exorbitant cost of living, and am disheartened by the lack of access to quality products at reasonable prices.

The pathos behind Pulse & Prelude speaks directly to this intersection; I chose to create products that not only did their job, but that were a treat to the senses. Affordability and quality are able to comfortably go hand-in-hand, and my hope, both as a paramedic and as a human, is that people who may not be able to treat themselves to luxury body care will be able to afford ours, and will have the experience they deserve.

Every product is carefully made by hand, pulling inspiration from the cello, my determination to make a difference, and the good of the human spirit. Products that do not sacrifice luxury feel for the sake of affordability are a small step towards reclaiming the little things in life, and giving people the chance to feel good.
